The National HBCU Alumni Hall of Fame Activities

The National HBCU Alumni Hall of Fame Week hosted the "Call to Womanhood" & "Call to Manhood" Symposium at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Forty years ago, the Late, Thomas Dortch II had a vision to preserve & highlight contributions of Historically Black Colleges & University Alumni.

There were thirteen Dekalb County High Schools invited to attend this event.  The girls & boys were in separate rooms to have candid conversations with the guest speakers about topics relevant to young adults.  Congratulations to Retired Educator, Ms. Maronda Hastie for being included in the panel to speak to the girls!  The Royal Courts from prospective universities surprised the youth when they proudly introduced their school.

Women Presenters: Gena Hill-Brown, Dr. Sharron Jenkins, Maronda Hastie, Eula Moore

BioFit-360: The Metabolic Reset | how to lose weight

Men Presenters: Dr. Joshua Murfree, Dr. Ralph Simpson, Emmanuel Lewis & Attorney Chris Johnson

Dr. Ralph Simpson | The SIMPle Factor

The discussions included the following topics & more.

Other activities included the "Positive Image" program where the royal court from various universities visited the high schools.  They talked about the benefits of higher education, what their school offers & how to become productive global citizens.  The competition of the queens showcased talent & the purpose of attending a Historically Black College or University.

Hey Maronda,
This is another example of your impact to our community and to the world. Whether you standing on a panel like this example, or teaching our future leaders, or completing a general contractor program, you always leave everyone with wisdom, treats and humor. You don’t just show up, you care and poured life into each event, program and person you connect with.

Forty years ago Tommy dreamed of preserving HBCU legacies. Today that dream lives in hearts shaped by voices like yours.

I see you. I celebrate you. I’m proud of you. Forever your friend.

Navy, thank you for the kind words & paying attention! Somebody sacrificed for me so the least I can do is share with the next generation.
