Homeless Children Drive

McNair Travel Club help the homeless women & children...

The McNair Travel Club joined forces with the National Honor Society & BETA Club to collect materials for three shelters in need.  Students, faculty, staff members, friends & family all donated clothes, shoes, toiletries, snacks, and time.  Everyone seemed very pleased to receive a hand painted inspirational message that they could have for safe keeping along with the warm brownies from Mr. Duhart ;)

We are grateful that each time the cars are stuffed with lots of supplies, and we plan to go back to take more.  The students had a chance to interact with the children at the Covenant House, the women at Atlanta Mission (My Sister's House), and the men at the Gateway Center.  Stay Tuned for our next visit!

I enjoyed going to the children's homeless shelter. It was such an amazing experience because you never know who you may meet there. Going to this shelter made me appreciate what I have so much more. I loves the kids spirit , they were really nice. I would definitely want to go back and do this again.

I'm glad you enjoyed the experience! The little things you did meant a lot to them: all the clothes, toiletries, hand painted inspirational messages, spending time playing cards, and sharing snacks. We should definitely go back & bring more of your friends...Thank You ;)

I learned from the homeless shelter last weekend before spring break. Its not about doing for the community service hours, its about helping others who need it. I was blessed to learn from the pain & struggle of the people who been through a lot more than me. They still have hope for themselves. I helped prepare the gift bags with important items for everyday life. What is my role? I assisted with the homeless with packing the right things for the men, stuff like soap, deodorant, and shaving cream as well. I talked to those who are going through hard times in their lives who needed someone to encourage them. I responded to them by saying "no reasons to give into despair, always keep your head up!" I hope they read the inspirational quotes we created for them. This inspired me to find better services for myself because I want to live on my own one day.

Good Job Lu'Roy: You have come a long way & you are progressing well! The time spent at the shelter is appreciated! Your Senior Portfolio should be filled with lots of Community Service Projects you participated in so be sure to research transitional & assistance programs while you plan for graduation & college.

My experience at the My Sister's House homeless shelter was great. I had a good time with the women, and children. We gave a lot of items to them, clothes , and etc. This was a big learning experiment for me. I love helping people. I loved this visit, and i do plan on going back.

Going to the homeless shelter was really enjoyable. It gave me a newfound respect for people with less fortune because they still found reasons to smile and they were still inspired to find a better tomorrow for themselves. Going to the shelter also made me more grateful for the things I do have and less materialistic. Going into my future I plan to continue to contribute to different shelters and causes that help others because I now realize that every helping hand counts. on
